Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. Where did you grow up, and how did you become interested in advertising?
Growing up, I moved around a bit, I grew up in Plano, Texas, up until 4th grade, when I moved to Ghana for two years, then my family settled in Prosper, Texas, when I started middle school. My sister graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Advertising, which inspired me to explore my major and university. I love reading and everything that comes with writing and finishing three books within the week is my favorite thing to do. Advertising allows me to tell as many stories as I want. As someone who loves daydreaming, spending my day’s brainstorming sounds ideal.
What made you decide to pursue a degree in advertising, and how did you choose your university/program?
I've always been interested in storytelling and coming up with ideas since my brain goes a million miles per minute. While trying to figure out my major, I just decided to dive into Advertising and loved the creative structure it offered, and the vast number of roles I could explore.
What do you think are the most important skills for success in the advertising industry, and how are you working to develop those skills?
Wanting to always learn more is the most important. Advertising is always advancing as time goes on. Society and technology are bound to change in the next five years, so don't limit yourself by being closed-minded regarding something new. It helps to stay curious and always wonder why something works.
What are your thoughts on the current state of the advertising industry, and where do you see it heading in the future?
It's incredibly faced paced, and I've only been committed to it for the past 2.5 years, so I can't imagine how someone who's been a part of it for over five years would feel. I see the number of people interested in the field skyrocketing, especially with how prominent social media is.
How do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in advertising, and what resources do you rely on for industry news and insights?
Ad Week, my sister, and Breaking & Entering
Can you share any advice for other students who are interested in pursuing a career in advertising?
Don't limit yourself to one role, explore whatever you are interested in, but it’s nice to have a specialty.
